Daily Painting, Seascape Yellow Boat Provincetown

"Old Yellow Boat"
Soft Pastel on Wallis Museum paper 5x7"
One of my favorite little wooden boats to paint in Provincetown harbor. I used a turquoise underpainting for the bottom half of this painting and a yellow underpainting for the sky.
This will be available for sale Wednesday, November 25 in My Daily Painters Gallery.

Cape Cod Dinghy Low Tide Painting by Nancy Poucher

"Light over Dark"
Soft Pastel on Wallis Museum paper 8x8"
Available Sunday in My Daily Painters Gallery
Generally, with pastels, I work from light to dark. It's always easier to lighten a dark tone than it is to darken a light tone. When I laid in my foreground and reflection, I used my darkest Terry Ludwig pastels with plans to bring in some lighter tones on top. But I liked the contrast between the darks of the water and the light above. Hope that somebody out there likes it too!

Seascape, Tropical Beach Painting by Nancy Poucher

Soft Pastel on Wallis Museum paper 5x7"
Available for purchase at My Daily Painter's Gallery
Any questions? E-mail me.

Sometimes these grey November days get me dreaming of a warm, tropical beach and the aqua pastels come out. I like to use a pink underpainting with these tropical pieces to add warmth.

Arboretum Weeping Willow Painting by Nancy Poucher

"La Grande Dame"

I went to the Minnesota Arboretum on Tuesday for a walk and some field studies. The fall and winter months are ideal for observing how trees grow. Without the leaves it is easier to see how the trunks and branches twist and turn. The highlight of the trip was the couple of giant weeping willows with a perfect stone bench underneath their boughs. It's a magical spot in the late afternoon, a hideaway of golden light. I sat under the king willow to pastel "La Grande Dame"

Warm Midwest Afternoon Pastel Painting by Nancy Poucher

Field Study Loring Park
Soft pastel on LaCarte paper 8.5x11.5
I was supposed to be moving in to a Minneapolis apartment today but it was too nice so took a few pastels to the park instead! Still a few fall colors and the last asters of the season.
