Ruby Glow, Sailboat Seascape Pastel Painting by Poucher

"Ruby Glow"
8.5x10.5" Soft pastel on Wallis Museum paper
I used an orangy, burnt sienna dry pastel underpainting for this one to help capture the late afternoon warmth.
I think it worked! What do you think?

Yet another Empty Boat Study Pastel Painting by Poucher

"Empty Boat Study #12"
I know, you're probably tired of seeing these but it's what I do to get going again when I arrive in Minneapolis. This one started with a gold, wet pastel underpainting. I used some fixative and insulation pipe to create the water. Gold and blue cheer me up! This one will be available through my Daily Painters Gallery tomorrow, Nov. 20th.

Orange Buoy, Seascape, Pastel Painting by Poucher

"Orange Buoy"
Soft pastel on Wallis 7x5"
Available through Daily Painters
This is a lobster trap buoy in Provincetown harbor. This time of year my water seems to turn turquoise. It must be dreaming of warm, tropical islands!

Day in the Dunes, Cape Cod Landscape Plein Air Painting

"Day in the Dunes"
Soft pastel on Wallis museum 8.5x12"
Available through My Daily Painters Gallery
Another spectacular summery day on the tip of the Cape. I've been wandering the dunes for the past couple of days with just a small cardboard box of Terry Ludwig pastels. It's nice not to have the weight of the heavy wooden pastel box and good to work with a limited palette.

October Dune View, Cape Cod Plein Air Pastel Painting by Poucher

"October Dune View"
8.5x12" Soft pastel on Wallis Museum paper
A pleasure to have the fog burn off today after a number of damp, dreary days. No sign of the crowds that are arriving for Columbus day weekend out in the dunes. If you are interested in purchasing this piece please email me with an offer.

Provinceland Dunes, Cape Cod Pastel Painting by Poucher

"Provinceland Dunes"
Soft pastel on Wallis paper 8.5x11.5"
I blended this plein air piece more than usual to give it that softer look of these hazy days of summer. Color shapers, pipe insulation and fingers were all used to soften the edges. What do you think? Do you use tools to blend your pastels?

"Wharf Pylons Demo"
Soft pastel on Wallis paper 9x12"
Thanks to Kim for organizing such a great group of women for the weekend pastel painting workshop on her gorgeous deck. I think everyone captured the steamy atmosphere of the day wonderfully!

Boris, Margo Gelb Cape Cod Dune Shack Pastel Painting by Poucher

Soft pastel on Wallis paper 9x12"
This is the dune shack where I was lucky to have been chosen for an artist residency last fall. I had planned to give this a more "finished" look but I like the peachy underpainting showing through. What do you think?

June Cape Cod Beach Path Pastel Painting by Poucher

"June Beach Path"

I must have been wearing my rose colored glasses when I painted this one.  The rugosa roses are in full bloom out in the dunes these days. Ahhh.....salt and roses. This piece is available through my Daily Painters Gallery.
