Royal Tern Shorebird Pastel Painting by Poucher

"What's Up?"
Soft pastel on UArt 400 paper 8x8"

Royal Terns are common on Gulfport beach this time of the year. This one was pretty friendly!
I used watercolor pencils for the beak and eyes to get the detail. If I can get more shorebirds to pose so nicely, I think I'll do a series of close-ups.

How very sweet! Love the little Terns. We have just moved to a cottage a few minutes from the dunes here in Norfolk England and I hear this little bird is sadly on the decline it is a native here at Winterton-On-Sea. I adore your pastel colours to the painting.

Thank you, Camilla! Yes, we need more protected beaches for the terns and other shorebirds to nest on.
